surgery without pre op weight loss
hi,
I went to Emerson Hospital where they wanted you to lose 5% of your body weight. I was on their South Beach like diet and ended up losing 10%. I also went to the MGH intro program. They did not expect you to lose any weight pre-surgery. They said that their own studies determined that it made no difference. The Emerson program doctors said that your newly shrunken liver made the surgery much easier.

My clinic also required a 5% weight loss which would have been 12 pounds for me. I decided to follow the post-op (lifetime) diet, gave up caffeine and diet soda and lost 40 pounds in just over 2 months. I did start walking and peddling my recumbent bike.
I don't know if the pre-op loss helped me have such an easy surgery and recovery or not.

Hello! I was unable to lose weight before the surgery, and the Dr.s office mentioned the size of the liver as one of the reasons to try to lose weight. I did, however, quit caffeine completely, which was too over a month. I considered that to be a HUGE accomplishment.
Enjoy doing zoomba, and walking in the springtime. Positive attitude counts for alot!
